The sweet life of two new roomies in the city!

For all of you who faithfully read my blog and keep up with my life from the blogging view, I apologize for my absence over the past few weeks. Let’s just say that moving is a huge adventure and time has escaped soooo incredibly fast. I have already been here in Oklahoma City for nearly two weeks! Since I haven’t started my job yet (that happens tomorrow…), it has felt like I’ve been on vacation for these 14 days! But it has been so nice to get settled and take care of all of those little details that go along with moving. And of course we’ve taken the time to pamper ourselves by tanning out at the pool, working out, shopping at the Quail Springs Mall (which is only like a block away and they even have a NY&Co store…double sweetness!) and taking some walks in the cool calm evenings! Adjusting to city life has certainly been a change and I’m not quite used to the crazy Oklahoma drivers yet! But…the transition has not been hard and I’m loving the fact that Wal-Mart and Target are less than a mile away. Wal-Mart already knows us VERY well!

Ok…so I’m going to try to give you guys a speedy run down of the last couple of weeks! Actually, the day before the big move, Sunday May 17th, Dad and I ended up in the Vetinary ER at about 10:00 pm. Our precious canine, Lady, began acting really strange that evening…shaking, drooling, nervous-acting and as time went on, she couldn’t even stand without falling over. It was almost like she was having a seizure but it lasted for longer than that. After calling the vet and watching her for about an hour, we decided we had to do something as we planned on leaving town the next day. And she wasn’t getting any better. The diagnosis of the dog Dr. was that she may have gotten into some bug spray. They gave her some IV medication including a sedative and kept her there for two days until Serena and Dad returned home from OKC. But by Monday morning, she was doing pretty well and from Serena’s report after taking her home, she was back to her normal self! YAY! I’m so glad she is okay…she was really worrying me that night (being a nurse, I could only thing of the worse…).

So Monday morning rolled around too quickly it seemed as that night had been really short due to Ladybug. I woke up to an almost empty room. I was super excited about what the day was going to bring! I quickly got all of my last minute things packed up and we were on the road to OKC by 7:30 am. Very soon, I was saying goodbye to Kansas and hello to Oklahoma! After grapping some lunch and checking in at Sycamore Farms apartments (and signing my life away!), we bagan hauling everything up and in. At least it was only about 75-80 degrees instead of 90-100! But after the 20th time up and down the stairs, Dad and I were sweating and exhausted. I don’t know about Serena…she didn’t do much work. She just took pictures…! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then, the rest of the day we went furniture shopping. On the top of my list was bedroom furniture so I would at least have a decent place to sleep.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ And…finally by 9:00 that night, I decided on a bedroom set but would still have to wait until Wednesday for delivery. Welp…the air mattress will have to do for two nights! I returned to the apartment for the night while Serena and Dad stayed at a motel. I don’t think I slept hardly a wink that night…I was up until about 3 am putting away clothes and such in my fabulous walk-in closet! I was so excited about getting everything organized and settled in but some of it would have to wait until I get the dresser and chest! At least I got my closet filled! ๐Ÿ™‚ I surprised Serena and Dad by being up and ready to go by the time they knocked on my door at 8:30 Tuesday morning.ย  Serena helped me make a shopping list of ‘must haves’ for a quick trip to Wal-Mart and off we went with Dad tagging along behind. Oh my goodness, there are so many things that I always have handy at home and am finding absent now! Tis the reason for so many trips to Wally World! Dad and Serena left for home by noon so they could pick up Lady before the clinic closed. And yay, they left me behind…I really am in OKC and this is my new home!

The rest of the week is actually a huge blur! Briann, my roomie, was in and out during the day as she was finishing up her last semester at OK Baptist University. I continued organizing and putting away what I could in the apartment…but without any furniture, nothing could be in it’s perfect place quite yet. :/ย  Wednesday, my bedroom furniture arrived…YAY!!! But…I was hoping to get the room painted before then; however, that didn’t happen as the delivery came first thing that morning. So…I had the fun job of moving furniture, painting the walls, then moving furniture again. That took up the entire day. But finally by the end of the week, my room looked incredible and turned out great! I LOVE it!

Briann’s parents and family arrived on Thursday afternoon for her Nursing pinning ceremony and graduation that weekend. So once again, we went furniture shopping for the living room and dining room and had some fun times just hanging out! Pretty much got Briann all moved in over the weekend too. YAY!!! This was just the beginning of the sweet life of two new roomies in the big city! =D

Sunday, I think we finally decided for sure on some furniture for the living room and dining room and after spending all of our money, we couldn’t wait for delivery later that week. We were desperately wanting something to sit on besides the floor or boxes or totes that were lying around everywhere! Once again the days were flying by as we shopped and decorated our new home! We had WAY too much fun and spent WAY too much money! But isn’t that why I worked for five years and lived at home without bills to pay?!?!?!

Tuesday, I had my pre-employment physical at OU Medical Center. All went well and I passed with flying colors! WOOT! It was fun to visit the place that I will soon know very well!

By Wednesday, we had a tv plus our cable and internet were set up by the cox guy.ย  YIPEE! Now at least I feel like I was in tune with something outside of my apartment! Had to get on facebook first thing…! ๐Ÿ™‚ That afternoon, it was time to go back to Kansas already for the ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) renewal class I was taking at Meade Hospital. It felt very awkward sleeping in my room again but without anything in it! Got caught up with the family on the latest news and gave Lady and the kitties a hug.ย  Dad loaded my bike in my little car…but he had to take it apart first. ๐Ÿ™‚ At least he got it to fit though!

Thursday from about 9 am to almost 3 pm, Briann and I took the class in Meade while catching up with friends and co-workers at the hospital during our breaks! Even though I’d only been gone a week and a half, it was wonderful to see everyone again! I miss them SOOOO much! Brings back some great memories of some great times! Little did I know that while I was in class, something michevious was going on in the parking lot that involved my car! (For the second time…!!! I should have known…) My windows had some very good artistic work on them and I must say they did a quite a good job…but washing the silly paint off was NOT fun! :/ At least, the guys were decent enough to help me wash it off but they still owe me an official car wash!!! Even now, I think there is still some green paint and the car’s been through the car wash that is right next door to our apartments. I suppose I’ll forgive them this time…but next time I visit, I’m hiding my car! After the class and getting some things taken care of at home, Briann and I were off to the city again (and with our bikes!). WHOOHOO!

Friday, I got my Oklahoma license tag and returned to OU Medical Center for my TB skin test to be read. Then, Briann and I assembled our dining room table. We were smarted than we thought! =O WOW! Briann is much more construction and ‘building things’ minded than I am. Good thing!

Yesterday morning, we loaded our bikes onto Briann’s bike rack on the back of her SUV and headed for Lake Hefner…about 5-6 miles away. We surprised ourselves by riding the entire route around the beautiful lake which ended up being 9.5 miles! It was soooo much fun and the lake was gorgeous! We decided to make a ritual of riding around the lake every Saturday that we are off work. ๐Ÿ™‚ It would be really fun to run out there too. And perhaps sometime, we’ll try some of the fancy restaurants on the lake and check out the lakehouse!

We attended a church this morning fairly close to our apartments. However, let’s just say we’re going to try a different place next Sunday. ๐Ÿ˜‰ We hope to find a church soon that we can call home and look forward to meeting new people and making new friends! This afternoon, we went to the mall because we had not been to New York and Co. since we’ve been here and we were simply DYING TO GO! They had some amazing sales too! Just what we needed to do…spend more money! AHHHH…so we didn’t stay very long! We’ve pretty much already maxed out our credit cards. Nice huh?! Anyway, we also did a minor amount of cooking for the first time in our apartment this evening. (Now that we actually have some cooking equipment!)

So now that I’ve reached the here and now, I’m blogging at this moment while watching “Straight From the Heart” and drinking an Orange Julius Smoothie! YUM! And thinking about tomorrow…I START THE NEW JOB! I’m as excited as I am nervous! Actually, these days off of having no schedule really have been nice but I’m so ready to get a routine and make some money again (to replace all that I’ve spent!)!

In summary, the move has been great. I absolutely LOVE the city life. There is sooo much to do (and not enough time!). But we’ve only been here two weeks. Briann and I love our apartment and hopefully will say the same about our jobs soon! We look forward to many fun and exciting adventures to come. Just think…this is only the beginning of our new life! =D

New lease on life…

The past week has brought some scary moments, emotional turmoil, and a new lease on life. I have sensed God’s very presence and His protection. I have realized that He is in control of absolutely everything, even the mundane things in life. He has truly extended His grace and mercy abundantly to me and I am grateful.

Tuesday morning stated as routinely as any other ordinary day in my life. This particular day I had plans to meet a girlfriend in Liberal for lunch (which I was very thrilled about by the way!). But merely a mile from my house, the Lord got my attention in a way I never expected and most certainly didn’t desire.ย  As I was fearlessly driving down the dirt road, I looked away for only a second to grap something out of my purse, got caught in some loose sand on the road, and the next thing I knew, I was upside down in my car in the field. WHOA! I have never been so scared in my life.ย  My car rolled twice and was totaled. But amazingly enough and certainly only by the grace of God, I suffered only a sprained left wrist and some minor cuts and bruises. Praise the Lord is all I can say.

I’m not saying by any means that God ’caused’ the accident but I do think that He allowed it. Perhaps He wanted to simply get my attention and remind me that my life IS not my own and He could take it at any moment. Perhaps He wants me to learn to trust Him more and to seek His wisdom in even the everyday things of life. Perhaps He wants to break my pride and for me to be content and grateful for all that He has given to me.

I was back at work Thursday and Friday and didn’t even have to take any time off. Work has remained incredibly busy but I’ve not minded. I have had this weekend off but return tomorrow and Tuesday. After being off a couple of days, I look forward to going back tomorrow.

Then and NOW!

Okay…it’s been over a week since I’ve blogged and a lot has been happening! Right now, I’m in Shawnee, OK, staying with Brainn (a girlfriend from Meade) in her apartment at OK Baptist University. I’m super excited to spend this week with her…and as soon as she finishes her nursing finals tomorrow am, the fun begins!!! But first, let me backtrack a little to this past week…

Monday, I worked. It was busy and it seems that our ‘quiet’ streak has resolved and the winter madness at the hospital has begun. I even stayed late to help the night shift until about 9pm…so I think I put in about a 15-hour day! WHEW! Good thing I didn’t have to come back the next day. Maybeย being busy isn’t such a bad thing. It certainly makes a 12-hour shift (or a 15-hour one!)ย swing by really fast.

Tuesday I was home most of the day baking holiday sugar cookies and nativity ginger-breads for Kid’s Club. There were also a few table decorations that I finished. I had an incredibly good time and I was quite proud of my nativity scenes! I think they turned out really cute!

Tuesday evening, my piano teacher and I went out to eat at Applebee’s in Dodge City and had our little Christmas. I think we probably picked the coldest and most windy evening, but despite that, we had a good time of chatter and laughter! I made a quick run to Wal-Mart before returning home…after all, no trip to Dodge City is complete without stopping by the Wal-Mart store.

Wednesday morning, I had piano lessons as usual…the last one for a couple weeks over the holidays though. I also did some grocery shopping (which included going to Wal-Mart… ;)). Then, I made the sandwiches and punch and finished the jello for that evening. And very soon, 6:30 pm arrived and it was time for the Kid’s Club Christmas Party! I had so much fun with the decorations and the kids and I think they all had a really good time as well.

Thursday and Friday, I was back at work for another whirlwind of activity! Saturday, after sleeping in late and catching up on some zzzzz’s, I got some gift wrapping done for my secret pal and secret santa at work and for some friends. I was thrilled that a couple things I ordered had arrived so I could get them wrapped and packaged and shipped off to my far-away friends! I did some laundry and other odd’s and inn’s around the house getting ready for a week in Oklahoma. That evening, I packed and was really up too late (…til almost 1:30 am…). Sunday finally arrived as my alarm woke me up at 5:30 am. I was super excited as I rolled out of bed and got ready to hit the road. I left home about 7:45 am, drove to Meade, and then rode with Briann’s parents and brother for the 5-hour drive to OK Baptist University in Shawnee!

Well…now that you’re caught up, I can tell you about the here and now! When we arrived in Shawnee yesterday about 2:30 pm, it was so nice and warm with temperatures hitting 75 degrees! Stunningly beautiful…especially leaving Kansas with a frigid temperature of 15 degrees! But within a matter of about 3 hours, the cold front was coming to OK (it must have followed us from Kansas ;)) and the temperature dropped by about 40 degrees. That evening, we attended a Christmas Program and Dinner at a local church (Briann was playing the saxaphone in the orchestra) and a bank thermometer read 21 degrees!!! It was certainly cold enough! The Christmas program was delightful though and the music was amazing! The church was decorated so beautiful with traditional Christmas colors and poinsettas. Unfortunately, all of us forgot our cameras. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

After the program, Briann and I made a run to Wal-Mart to pick up a few essential items…like some Diet Mt. Dew! And we picked up some ingredients to do some cooking for supper tonight…lasagna, breadsticks, and salad. Like I said, no trip is complete without a run to the local Wal-Mart store! We watched a little tv last night and celebrated Christmas…and I helped Briann study for a while (well…tried to help her…it’s been waaaaay too long since I was in nursing school…and then, we’d get distracted and start talking about something not related to studying for the nursing test…!). But anyway, we called it a night about midnight.

This morning, we met Briann’s parents at IHOP for a late but delicious breakfast, before they hit the road again to head back home. It was YUMMMMY and will keep us plenty full until supper tonight! Briann has been studying for a couple hours…while I’ve been blogging and uploading pictures. She’s now taking her test. She also has one final tomorrow morning and then we plan to visit downtown Shawnee and the mall. Wednesday morning, we’re gonna go into OK City and spend the rest of the week there shopping, partying in Bricktown, ice skating, and maybe even a carriage ride! YAY!

It is still really cold today…in the 20’s, but by Thursday it is suppose to be back up into the 60’s. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Yes it is!! It snowed (even if it was just a trace of snow…it WAS snow!) yesterday. I drove home from work in it and didn’t mind at all…it got me in the Christmas spirit as I was listening to Christmas music in my car.

Oh my word!! December is always a busy month and it seems this year is especially busy for me. I don’t think there are going to be enough days to get everything done that I need/want to!!! Some of those ‘wants’ will just have to wait I suppose! I worked at the hospital today as well but was in the Pharmacy so it wasn’t quite as long of a day. I think the storm after the calm (???) is starting to hit…the pace has picked up a bit at our little hospital.

When I’ve been at home (which seems like hardly ever recently!), I’ve been making, organizing, and getting everything together for our Kid’s Club Christmas party this next Wednesday evening. Can’t believe it is nearly here already!!! I’m getting more and more excited with each passing day. I’m actually quite proud of my simple yet cute table decorations!! I’ve posted some pictures below…and there will be more to come the night of the party! I even have a menu made out and it is as follows:

  • Sandwiches (with stars and Christmas trees on top)
  • Chips
  • Jello Ornaments
  • Holiday Sugar Cookies (with flashy toppings of course!)
  • Strawberry Pineapple Punch

I’m also making a Nativity Gingerbread…can’t wait to get started on that!!!

Whew…it’s over!

What a relief! My piano recital is over! I’m soooo glad. I can actually breathe normally again. Although I must say that I was more nervous before the recital…awaiting 3:00pm to get here! Once I started playing…I found myself to be pretty relaxed. And even though there were a few ‘oops’ and ‘uh-oh’s’, I’d say that it was a success and I felt really good about it once it was all over. My wonderful sister, Serena, recorded the 45 minute piano playing…but the file is unfortunately too large to upload to my blog…or even facebook or youtube. ๐Ÿ˜ฆย  So…for those of you who missed the recital and want to hear me play…I guess you’ll just have to wait until next time! ๐Ÿ˜‰

My mind consumed…

This week is flying by and to be frank, I’m glad. I will be even more glad when next Monday is here. Why? My piano recital is Sunday afternoon…and I’m afraid my mind has been totally consumed by preparing for that! Even though I’m a tad bit excited about it, I’m soooo nervous! I’ve been spending a lot of hours at the church practicing on the piano and it seems that that’s all I’ve been doing and thinking about this week! I’m playing six classical pieces and four contemporary pieces. Three of the songs I’ll be playing from memory. I’m doing a lot of praying too! My piano instructor has been so wonderful, so patient, and so encouraging to me during all my preparation. I couldn’t ever have gotten this far without her! Thank you Kay Lynn!!!

So what else have I been doing when I’m NOT practicing or when I’m NOT thinking about my upcoming piano recital…?! Well, I’ve kept up with working out a lot this week. The weather has been nice enough on the days I’m not working that I’ve been able to go outside and walk or jog in the afternoons. Today was especially beautiful…70 degrees and sunny! LUV IT! After working out this afternoon, I washed my new car. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Then, this evening I washed the kitchen floor (while snacking on popcorn and listening to some country music!), cleaned the sinks and toilets, and emptied trash. I usually try to do my house cleaning in the mornings…but I’ve been a bit preoccupied lately and it needed to be done, so I just did it while I had the chance. That reminds me that I need to clean the bathtub sometime soon too.

We’ve had an extra Siamese cat hanging out at our place for the past week…yes, trying to breed Skittles again! She has been the hardest cat to breed that I’ve ever known!!! Anyway, his name is Willy and he was the sweetest most adorable big ball of fur! I just took him back to his owner today…and I’m missing his purrs and affection already. I do believe Skittles was in heat this week…so Serena and I are really REALLY hoping that she is pregnant. Guess we will know for sure in a couple of months!

I’m still really enjoying my new car! I absolutely LOVE driving around town or down the road with the sunroof open and the windows down (when it’s not too chilly outside that is…)! Can’t wait to take it on a road trip!

Work tomorrow and then the weekend off…
